The Realist Map style has been upgraded to the new Bing map theme. What this means is a new style designed to communicate more important information at a glance. For instance, primary roadways are now denoted in a more distinct color, one-way streets are more clearly marked and road shields are more visible.
Greater Clarity
One of the primary objectives of the new map theme is to make important things easy to find. To do that, the following new improvements have been made.
- Casing for all roads – new casings on every road prevent roadways from blending with background colors
- Road type differentiation – higher contrasts and more saturated colors make it easier to distinguish road types and instantly recognize main thoroughfares versus secondary roads.
- New one-way arrows – larger arrows make it clearer when a street is one way
- New color for water – water shows up as a deeper hue of blue
- Distinction between building and road colors – previously roads and buildings were both grey… now roads are cased and building colors are a bit cooler to provide more contrast
- Making type more legible – enhanced glow on all type improves legibility
The new enhancements made to the Realist Map will make it easier to find restaurants and stores near a particular neighborhood, identify ATM’s and other valuable points-of-interest, as well as getting and following directions to a destination.

Love the map features… Awesome. It appears, however, to be missing the Rotate Camera feature under the Birdseye view. This was a great feature. Will this be added back soon?
This new arrangement makes it more difficult! I need to quickly access Assessor’s Maps to determine dimensions, section corners, etc. This new format is terrible. Instead of two clicks to get to the Assessor’s map when I pull up a property, I have to go through many steps instead. In fact I still haven’t figured out how to do it. Why fix something when it isn’t broken???
The “new” Realist with improved mapping is excellent.
